birthday bash!

by Kelly Carman
i had my birthday party last night and it was great!  thanks to all my friends for coming and extra thanks to foley for hosting and extra double thanks to LEAH AND DOUG who brought party decorations, foods, and amazing CUPCAKES WITH TINY PIES BAKED INSIDE THEM!  i made everyone dance to 90's dance music and hip hop and RnB.  i puffed with tobais fuke, i hugged a man with a snake for a penis, i chatted forever with lydia deetz and a shark bite victim.  the new liquor store that just opened nearby was visited by a dispatch from our party, in full halloween regalia, and the hispanic family that own the store all sang happy birthday to me!  my costume was a great sucess and i was very happy.  i drank too much though as i am apt to do and had to sleep most of the day with terrible headache.  and then i had to clean up and it was very very messy.  but that's ok.  i went home and finished reading "Island Beneath the Sea" by Isabel Allende which was about a slave and a concubine and Haiti before it was a haiti.  it was extremely moving and beautiful.  i would have made it a bit shorter if i was the editor, a few parts were clunky or boring but overall it was a great book.  i have gotten some swell b-day gifts so far including an awesome black gold earring for my rook from dann, a claw money hoodie from foley (claw is one of my favorite graffiti artists of all time), a kettle bell from brian for workouts, a kindle from papa (have yet to order that though, i should get on that, earrings and pez and buttons and light up bracelets from the lovely kelly, superstickers and baked things from doug and leah, and stoli from me!

here's pics of guests!  i stole them all because i didn't have any batteries for my camera.

TILT!

i'm loving a lot of things this week.
  • Helpful clerical personnel.  Shout out to Michelle at the Registrar's Office at the New School for hooking me up with super-fast turnaround on that official transcript request.  You saved my butt and you didn't even give me crap about that fact I had months to take care of it but put it off until the day before.
  • My big sister Miriam for post-midnight telephone consultation during crisis and for yummy sushi.   And the city of Philadelphia for having the best sushi roll for yummy bagel-and-lox from the Orient flavor.
  • Reading with my girls.  I'm getting to explore the next generation of Children's and Tween literature and I'm really loving it!  Junie B. Jones, Fancy Nancy, Pinkalicious, FreckleFace Strawberry, all that :)

  • halloweenie!! i got to make pumpkins with the girls which was awesome and also i am having a halloween-themed birthday party. very excited!!

ok i gotta go to the gym real quick then shower and edits for the ponies and head to manhattan :)

other things i love: that i can now almost do "dips" on the captains chair at the gym, my new sweaters, cantaloupe,  that light therapy exists to help me with S.A.D., dittocat, ECA STACK, unlimited Metrocards, cheap costume jewelry and hairbands, really good salad, homegrown herbs and tomatoes, and KEFIR.

It's my Birthday!

Hello all!
Halloween was fantastic, thanks for asking.  I visited my good friends Siobhan and Kevin in Philadelphie, for a party at their home (The Mole Hole!)  I got to see some of my favorite favorites like Artie, Robin, Matt, Alan, Danger and all the rest of the BME phillies I love.

And my YANKEES  kicked Philadelphia's butt!

fantastic.  It's a good thing everyone there liked me or they might have punched me for being such a bratty braggart.

I decided to be a leather domme for halloween, since I found a great hat at the Palisades Mall.  It was a sexy and cute costume and a big hit!  I shared my hat with Artie b/c it made his great costume look even creepier!

Good adventures in philly included buying beer from the scary-ass bodega near shawn porter's house.  in p.a. they don't sell beer anywhere, not even the gas station. it is a very stupid rule.  i felt like a dumb idiot for thinking i could get beer at Walgreens.  whatever.  some silly costumes i liked were a Somalian pirate and Count Chocula.  I like that cereal.  Boo Berry is amazing though.

siobhan and kevin made killer cupcakes and cookies.  They have like four awesome cats that made my visit much more comfortable.  I love kitty cats!

Here's some pictures from the party:

the madhatter is my host kevin, looking very handsome :)

there was an unintentional theme to the party.  we had a white rabbit, the red queen, the mad hatter and two alice in wonderlands!!

There were some little baby people there.  OK well they were college aged.. but is it bad that freshmen and sophmores in undergrad seem like kindergarteners to me now?  i'm  getting old.

this is my friend Danger who is a vegan and a straigthedge and i still like him.   he has a good vertical leap and is very tall. alan mandic took the picture:

Here's my plan: I am going to the gym and the library and the bank and then to dinner with some friends.

I spent the majority of the last two days in Chinatowns.  first philly one then the new york city one.  i liked it. except my feet hurt.  here's some pictures.

I want to study Kung Fu at this academy!

Have you ever taken the chinatown bus?  the one's in new york are crazy with lots of little tin y women hawking tickets and yelling at you.  the one in philly is in the dingiest weirdest store front the goes on like forever and is dirty.

greetings, my glorious goofballs

i'm on a short break while getting in my writing for the day.  will you buy my novel when it comes out?  you ought to, i've heard it is very good and getting even better.

today i went to the palisades mall with my roommate to do a bit of shopping.  I got a new leather jacket for my birthday (Nov. 2nd) from my father :)  I am very happy.  it looks very snazzy.  I also got the central prop for my (secret) halloween costume and two Hanukka gifts for my nieces.

when i got home i re-dyed my hair, helped proofread and edit some documents, cleaned my turtle (Lahsanna's) tank, and then set about doing some work on my book.

tomorrow I go to Chinatown, NY then bus it to Chinatown, Philly.  Big party with some BME friends tomorrow.  I love Halloween!
